Playwrights unplugged

Article Abstract:

Some observers are now claiming that the traditional form of British epic theatre no longer exists, and a few are even stating that the play form itself has died out. They believe that the linear play form no longer represents the way people view the world or the way they receive information, and these views are already being taken up by theatre companies. A new generation is now having to reinvent theatre, but modern playwrights no longer offer certainties or even want to do so.

Lines of least resistance

Article Abstract:

South African theatre thrived under apartheid, as theatre tends to be most successful as an oppositional medium. In the new South Africa, theatre is enjoying great freedom, but being legitimised has removed some of its power and influence. Audiences have dwindled, with white theatre-goers in particular being reluctant to attend plays which will make them feel guilty for what happened under apartheid.

It's a dirty job. And everbody is doing it

Article Abstract:

There is a growing market for erotic fiction for women, and more and more writers are turning to this genre. It has been criticised in the press, but critics have failed to appreciate that this type of fiction is simply meeting a need, not trying to be serious writing. The main types of erotic fiction are historical romances and modern adventures.
