Plenty of vroom as long as it's Green

Article Abstract:

There has been much discussion over recent years about the environmental impact of cars, and some observers have predicted a future where only environmentally-friendly cars will be used and where alternative means of transport will be strongly promoted. However, the continued development of more powerful cars indicates that the conventional car will remain the preferred mode of transport for many years to come. Making cars look more compact and attractive may encourage people to see them in a different light, more as a practical means of transport than a status symbol.

The fastest men on earth

Article Abstract:

Andy Green, UK pilot, plans to try to break the sound barrier with the Land Speed Record challenge in the Thrust SSC automobile, which should be able to travel at 850 miles per hour. The vehicle, a supercar with two Rolls-Ryce Spey engines from an aircraft, was designed by Richard Noble, who holds the Land Speed Record of 633 miles per hour. Green will compete against Craig Breedlove, an American, who lost the record to Nobel in 1983 in the Black Rock Desert, NV, but could break the sound barrier whilst practising in Jordan.
