President forgives 200 years of injustice

Article Abstract:

President Nelson of South Africa addressed members of the UK House of Commons and the House of Lords at Westminster on July 11 1996, when he spoke of the ending of two hundreds years of mistreatment of blacks in South Africa. Michael Heseltine, UK Deputy Prime Minister, told Members of Parliament that Mandela had behaved within the law and that it was wonderful that he had achieved unity in South Africa after being freed from prison, when he showed no bitterness.

Apologising for the sins of the past

Pope John Paul II's apology to the Greek Orthodox Church is discussed. It is argued that the Pope's ability to apologize shows the venerable and resilient nature of the Catholic church.
