Prime Minister draws up battle plans for the looming euro war

Article Abstract:

The UK's relationship with the European Union will be a key element in determining the success of Prime Minister Tony Blair's 'project.' Blair is aware of the value of retaining close links with the Liberal Democrats, partly to isolate the Conservatives and partly because two pro-European parties leading a sceptical country towards the single European currency will prove more effective than one. Blair is gradually creating a grand pro-European alliance. The most recent stage in this process has been the appointment of Chris Patten as a European Commissioner.

If you really want to understand this war, listen to Parliament

Article Abstract:

The conflict in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, has had a significant impact on the House of Commons in the UK. This conflict has focused attention on the House of Commons, which has been the best place to assess the substantial shifts in position that have taken place since Nato launched air strikes. Indeed, debate in the House of Commons closely reflects the changing goals of the war. The mood in the Commons is sceptical, although strongly supportive of government policy. It is likely that increasingly searching questions will be asked as the conflict continues.
