Professor Charles Wynne

Article Abstract:

Lens designer Charles Wynne read Physics at Wadham College, Oxford, England, graduating in 1935. He joined the optical firm of Taylor, Taylor and Hobson in Leicester, England, in 1936, and showed a natural talent for lens design. He worked on aerial photographic lenses used by RAF reconnaissance planes during the second world war. After the war, he designed variable-focus zoom lenses for television cameras, and became chief lens designer and technical director for Wray Optical in Beckenham, England.

Dr Charles Rycroft

Article Abstract:

Psychoanalyst Charles Rycroft undertook medical training at University College Hospital, London, England, and then worked briefly in psychiatry at the Maudsley Hospital. He set up in private practice as an analyst in 1948 and continued to work for the rest of his life. He withdrew from the Psychoanalytical Society after becoming concerned about the rivalry between the Kleinian and Freudian factions towards the end of the 1950s, and devoted his attention to writing for a wider audience.

Charles Caliendi

Article Abstract:

Aerospace engineer Charles Caliendi studied at the de Havilland Aeronautical School in Hatfield, England, from Sep 1937. He joined the de Havilland aerodynamics department after graduating in 1941, and in 1944 was appointed chief instrumentation engineer. He was appointed technical services manager in 1961, and became chief development engineer in 1965. In this role, he chose, tested and developed all de Havilland's bought-out aircraft components and equipment.
