Provos: getting the inside story on the inside story

Article Abstract:

It proved very difficult to assemble the material for 'Provos - the IRA and Sinn Fein,' a four-part television series which is to be broadcast shortly by the BBC. The making of the series, which was based on a book entitled 'Provos,' was supported by Sinn Fein, but the IRA was extremely wary about becoming involved. It was necessary to hold extensive off-camera talks before interviews could be filmed, and the filming process was very emotionally tiring.

Seriously entertaining

Article Abstract:

Michael Frayn, 59, writes intricately assembled plays and novels which are considered 'seriously amusing.' They concentrate on man's attempt to impose his ideas of order on nature. He examines organisations sympathetically and shows how philosophical matters are close to the surface of everyday incidents. His new play 'Here' opens at the Donmar Warehouse, London, England, on Aug 04, 1993.
