Putting aside a little something

Article Abstract:

It is very important to start planning early for financial security in retirement. In general, the best way to save for retirement is to join an employer's pension scheme. Many of these schemes allow additional voluntary contributions to be made, thus boosting retirement income. It is also possible to pay into a free standing additional voluntary contribution scheme, although there are high costs associated with such schemes. Those who are self-employed or do not belong to an employer's pension scheme should consider a personal pension.

How savers miss out on 125m pounds sterling

Article Abstract:

The UK market for traded endowment plans (TEPs) rose by more than 30% in 1998 from 1997 to an estimated 300 million pounds sterling. Opting to sell an endowment policy before it matures, rather than surrendering it to the insurer for cash, can be very profitable. The original owner of the endowment sells it to a TEP market maker, with selling-on a policy adding approximately an extra 12.5% to the cash value quoted by the insurance company, as long as the endowment has been held for at least 10 years.

Your life is your business

Article Abstract:

It is worthwhile drawing up an annual report of your personal finances. This should give a record of all income, either pre- or post-tax, and must also include the capital value of your assets, including investments, savings and life assurance. You may also wish to make a note of the value of all your possessions. Recording your personal finances in detail in this way allows you to see areas where provision may be inadequate and to plan for the future.
