Queer venues for a festival

Article Abstract:

The Queer Up North Festival, to open in Manchester, England, on May 1, 1998, will involve more than 100 performances from more than 20 different companies. This event, the largest international gay and lesbian arts festival in Europe, will also include two special commissions, art exhibitions, eight premieres and a drive-in film. The core venue will be the Grolsch Festival Tent. The festival will serve to emphasize Manchester's role as a key location for lesbian and gay arts.

Liverpool Football Club Vice-Chmn Peter Robinson is one of the most influential football managers in the UK, according to West Ham Football Club Company Secretary Graham Mackrell. Everton Football Club Secretary Michael Dunford also expresses admiration for Robinson, as well as for Arsenal Football Club Managing Director Ken Friar. Leeds United Football Club Commercial Director Adam Pearson highlights Manchester United's Martin Edwards and Peter Kenyon.

Manager of Tottenham Hotspur football team Terry Venables rescued the team from financial ruin in 1991. Venables was an only child, born in 1943 in Essex. He is the only footballer who has won England caps at every level. He is multi-talented as he has co-written a novel and a television series, speaks Catalan, and owns a nightclub. He was manager of the Spanish team Barca from 1984-1987.
