Quick, think of something

Article Abstract:

Many companies are now beginning to realize that they have reached the limits of downsizing, merging and cutting costs. There is no further potential for re-engineering, so they must now increasingly focus on innovation. The most significant new approach to innovative management to have emerged so far is the application of quality management philosophies to product development. In this way, development, marketing and manufacturing can work together as a single team on a specific project. This approach has already been shown to significantly reduce the time it takes to get a new product to market.

Deep in the forest, something stirring

Article Abstract:

A biologist stayed at the Fazenda Dimona forest workers' camp on the edge of the rainforest north of Manaus in the Amazon Basin, Brazil. A storm and its effects on the animals and plants is described. Animals find their way by chemical trails beyond human perception in the dark night. Examination of wolf spiders, Lycosidae, showed a large diversity of species. Ants, which have 20,000 species, are the dominant subgroup of insects. In the Amazon rainforest they comprise 10% of the biomass of all animals.

Don't just lecture me, teach me something

Article Abstract:

The London Institute of Education undertook a survey of quality in learning. Lecturers and students provided performance indicators. Good presentation style and encouragement of asking questions were valued. The most cited problem was the failure to ask inefficient staff to resign. The best lecturers were those who were interested in the students and were good communicators. Many of them had previously worked in areas other than education.
