India's batting prodigy, Sachin Tendulkar, 18, is preoccupied with cricket. He played his first test at 16. At 17 he made a test century at Old Trafford. He has instinctive sporting maturity and takes advice from Gavaskar. At school he was taught by Remakant Achrekar and reached the highest stand in cricket history. Meticulous concentration improves his technique. His trademarks are a scything cut and a controlled punch through wide mid-on.

Last king of the knuckle brigade

Traveller families in the UK and Ireland are determined to prevent their traditional sport of bare-knuckle boxing being stamped out. The King of the Travellers title is highly respected, and bare-knuckle boxing is a key element in long-standing feuds between traveller families. One of these feuds resulted recently in the shooting in the knee of Jimmy Quinn McDonagh, who currently holds the King of the Travellers title.

Medical practitioner and priest Susan Wilson was born in Eighton, Ireland, in 1934. She qualified as a doctor in 1962 and worked in primary health care in Malawi. She was ordained priest in the Episcopal Church of All Angels in New York, NY, in 1987.
