Racial jealousy may have been motive behind shooting of DJ

Article Abstract:

Two men on a motorcycle shot at and injured BBC Radio 1 rap DJ Tim Westwood and five passengers in his car. Westwood has undergone surgery for a bullet wound to his arm, and is under guard in hospital. This attack has caused great shock in the UK hip hop community, which has seen few gun-related incidents. It is known that Westwood had attracted jealousy and resentment among some elements of the rap fraternity. Making a case for the underdog

Article Abstract:

It is hard to accept the UK government's reassurances that the vast majority of police and prison officers are good, according to human-rights lawyer Daniel Machover. He believes that many police and prison officers are aware of abuse and fail to take action to stop it. He regards this as making them complicit in abuse. He feels that his experiences of his parents' treatment by the Israeli authorities made him strongly aware of the potential for people in uniform to abuse their powers.

Jealousy plunges Gulf veterans into civil war

Article Abstract:

Bitter conflict has emerged between individual veterans of the Gulf War and between the two associations which represent these veterans. There is great jealousy between former soldiers, and this is hampering efforts to present a united front to the UK government in efforts to seek compensation for exposure to dangerous drugs and subsequent health problems. One of the main areas of conflict is the case of Ian Hill, chairman of the National Gulf Veterans and Families Association.
