Nato calls the bombing of a hospital collateral damage, I call it a tragedy

Article Abstract:

A hospital was bombed in Surdulica, Yugoslavia, and this action was described as 'collateral damage' by the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (Nato). There were some 40 patients seriously wounded at the TB hospital, and most of those who died were killed in their beds. Local people say there are no military targets nearby. The Yugoslav authorities also claim that no military vehicles were in the vicinity, though a radio station was a kilometer away, and could have been a target.

Editor's funeral 'a chance for us to protest.'

Article Abstract:

The authorities in Belgrade, Yugoslavia, have remained silent about the murder of Slavko Curuvija, editor of the newspaper Dnevni Telegraf. There was an atmosphere of incomprehension and fear at his funeral, with those attending aware that they were probably being watched by the state security police. His murder has made many people fear for the political future of Yugoslavia, where President Slobodan Milosevic has taken strong action against his critics.

What is the point of Nato?

Article Abstract:

It is clear that Nato military action against the Serbs in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, is not achieving its aims. Against this background, it is now time to consider Nato's future. As Nato is losing the conflict in Kosovo, it is also destroying itself. It is no longer appropriate for Europe to be 'protected' by the US through Nato, and this stance must be abandoned, even if this brings about the end of the Atlantic alliance.
