Ready to go: America is on the brink of attacking Iraq again

Article Abstract:

The decision by Iraq to order the departure of six US weapons inspectors has served to boost tension between the US and Iraq. The United Nations has responded by withdrawing weapons inspectors of all nationalities. The US National Security Council has been called into immediate session, and it seems increasingly likely that the tense situation will culminate in armed conflict with Iraq. The United Nations is in a difficult position, with some Security Council members being reluctant to take harsher action against Iraq.

Divisions emerge among allies over attacking Iraq

Article Abstract:

Mixed views are being expressed about whether the US should take military action against Iraq following attacks on Afghanistan in retaliation for the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon. In the White House, most people favour undertaking a first phase and then reassessing, but right-wingers in Washington, DC, are calling for an attack on Baghdad, Iraq.

Bin Laden's organisation active in 60 countries

Article Abstract:

There is a complex network of groups linked with Osama bin Laden's al-Qa'ida organization, according to US Defence Secretary Donald Rumsfeld. He indicated that bin Laden was clearly involved in the attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon, but acknowledged the difficulties associated with taking action against countries harbouring terrorists.
