Ready to order, sir?

Article Abstract:

Restaurant work is still regarded rather negatively in the UK, being seen as offering only low pay and anti-social hours. However, restaurant groups are now trying to reverse this impression, and are making efforts to formalise training procedures and reduce working hours. Groupe Chez Gerard, for example, has created its own management training course, while the Butlers Wharf Chef School, which is a charitable operation involving training and enterprise councils, local authorities and the Hotel and Catering Training Co, has now been running for a year.

The Accounting Standards Board will invite comments from the accounting profession, the City and industry, and many different views will have to be considered.

Don't make a PR crisis out of a disaster

Article Abstract:

Many UK companies are becoming aware of the need to train executives properly in dealing with public relations in the aftermath of a disaster. This issue has also been taken up many public relations agencies, which are offering disaster management as a specialist skill. It is now increasingly widely accepted that the best approach is for top executives to communicate openly with the media. In some cases, offering financial recompense may be appropriate.
