UK: DECLINE IN LONDON HOUSE PRICES?

Article Abstract:

House prices in London will decline in 2002 by 0.4% after reaching a peak in 2000 of 19%, projects the Centre for Economics & Business Research (CEBR). Prices in the UK capital have not fallen since 1995 and such a trend would concern the market as a whole because London is the traditional benchmark for the nation. The economic forecaster expects prices to slow in 2001 to 5.2% but believes that by 2004, growth of 6% will take place. The CEBR foresees interest rates of up to 8%, leading to a near 10% standard variable mortgage rate.

Safe as houses (or flats or maisonettes)

People considering investing in property in London, England, should be aware that they will be unlikely to make large short-term gains. Rental income can be quite low unless you are willing to consider a property in a non-prime location or one that needs some renovation work.
