Gunfire was so common no one noticed they had been snatched

Article Abstract:

Four telecommunications engineers, three of whom are Britons and one from New Zealand, have been taken hostage in Grozny, Chechnya, where violence is still extremely common. This event highlights the fact that there are serious dangers associated with visiting Chechnya, even with bodyguards. The UK Foreign Office is saying as little as possible about the latest kidnapping, and is encouraging the hostages' relatives to adopt the same attitude. However, it is clear that complex negotiations will be required to secure the hostages' release.

Nazi's hired killer who lay low for 50 years

Article Abstract:

Anthony Sawoniuk has been found guilty of involvement in the murder of Jews in the town of Domachevo, in what is now Belarus, during the second world war. The court heard that he worked with the Nazis after they invaded in Jun 1941, joining the police force and rising to the rank of commandant. Witnesses stated that he had been responsible for organizing 'search and kill' teams to track down Jews who had escaped the main slaughter, which took place on Sep 20, 1942.
