Sammy thanks God he's alive, but only a miracle will save Rose

Article Abstract:

Rescue workers are still hoping to find survivors of the bomb attack on the US embassy in Nairobi, Kenya. The centre of the city has been badly damaged, and more than 200 deaths have been confirmed. At least 40 bodies remain unidentified, as identification is being hampered by poor communications. Some Kenyans feel that the US must bear some of the responsibility for this tragedy, as security at the embassy was minimal. Others blame the terrorists who planted the bomb.

Where violence comes by day and night

Article Abstract:

There is a very high level of violent crime in South Africa, especially in Johannesburg, and this is making people in some areas almost into prisoners in their own homes. The country's assault rate has now reached 840 per 100,000 compared with an international average of 142, and there seems to be very little respect for human life. There is a particular problem with 'carjacking,'with more than 8,500 such incidents taking place in Johannesburg alone in 1995.

Original 'Cosmo' girl calls it a day

Article Abstract:

The founder of Cosmopolitan magazine, Helen Gurley Brown, who created great controversy by printing articles about issues which had previously not been discussed in public, is to retire at the age of 73. She broke the stranglehold of women's magazines dealing only with issues such as cooking and knitting, and set an example which was to be followed by a number of other magazines. She is widely regarded as revolutionising magazines and women's self-image.
