Sanitary protection products

Article Abstract:

The UK sanitary protection market was valued at 308.3 million pounds sterling in 1998. This indicates an increase of 2.2% over 1997 and a growth of 10% since 1994. However, this also shows that the growth has slowed in the late 1990s because, from 1989-1993, the market rose by 54%. Current estimate for unit sales is 3,464 million pieces a year. The sector that continues to contribute the highest growth is the press-on towel category. Considering the competitive situation, the market is predicted to increase only by around 2.5% annually.

The market for disposable paper products in the UK is expected to experience substantial growth due to the increasing popularity of premium and super-premium product lines. Retail sales of the products, led by facial tissues, are likely to increase to 1.135 million pounds sterling between 1998 and 2003. The kitchen towel sector is also projected to post healthy numbers as four and eight packs become the norm.
