Scandals fuel separatist fire

Article Abstract:

Public concern in Belgium about the failure of state institutions to adequately handled the recent crisis over child abductions and murders has lead to increasingly heated debate about how Belgium should pursue its federal agenda. The country's Dutch-speaking Flemish have over recent years taken a lead in calling for increased federalisation, but Francophone intellectuals are now beginning to join the debate. They are calling for stronger action by the French-speaking Walloons to avoid Flanders dominating moves towards greater federalism.

'I will not resign,' says Clinton as he prepares for his longest week

Article Abstract:

President Bill Clinton is standing firm against pressure to admit that he lied under oath when he denied an affair with Monica Lewinsky. He has emphasized his determination not to resign, even though the House judiciary committee has approved all four draft articles of impeachment against him. Each article has been challenged by the Democrats. Clinton still enjoys strong support among ordinary Americans, although many believe that he should be censured.
