Screen love affair has Bombay up in arms

Article Abstract:

The film 'Bombay' has created great controversy in India and there have even been riots in cinemas in some cities. It deals with a forbidden love story between a Muslim village girl and a Hindu reporter, thus going against the traditional approach that Hindus and Muslims can be friends but cannot be shown to marry each other. The producer of the film, Amitabh Bachan, is the most popular actor in India, but is now receiving death threats.

Out of a Burmese garden, into the jungle

Article Abstract:

Burmese dissident leader Aung San Suu Kyi has recently been unexpectedly released from six years of house arrest by the country's military junta. Some observers believe that she has been released because the ruling generals no longer fear her, as democratic forces have been crushed and ethnic rebel groups have been scattered. However, she remains defiant, and has already called for the release of fellow political prisoners.
