A deadly crop of mines is sown in Kosovo

Article Abstract:

Yugoslav soldiers in Kosovo, Yugoslavia, have been planting mines on the Serb side of the Albanian border for some time. There are also reports that mines are being deliberately planted in civilian areas, thus putting further pressure on the ethnic Albanian population to leave. Indeed, some reports indicate that Albanians themselves are being forced to lay mines in parts of Kosovo. There have also been reports of Serb police forcing Kosovo Albanians to participate in grave-digging chain gangs.

Milosevic is doomed - but the news may get worse

Article Abstract:

There is clearly strong opposition to Yugoslav President Slobodan Milosevic. His use of force against demonstrators indicates that he no longer feels secure. However, it must not be assumed that his regime will collapse in the near future. Even if he is removed from power, it is uncertain what sort of regime would replace him. The country's democrats are very concerned with their own image, and there is considerable conflict between them.
