Sex on the Net: a very modern morality tale

Article Abstract:

The issue of censoring material on the Internet has become particularly sensitive following the decision by leading Internet access provider CompuServe to deny users access to a large number of sexually explicit computer discussion groups and picture databases. The Internet is now becoming closely associated with pornography, but there is also concern that it contains racist and anti-semitic propaganda. There is a growing feeling that Internet material needs to be more closely monitored, but this is likely to prove almost impossible.

A very Churchillian gesture

Article Abstract:

Some people have objected strongly to 13 million pounds sterling of National Lottery money being spent to buy for the nation the wartime papers of Sir Winston Churchill, as they believe that they should be public property in any case. However, there has been a long tradition in the UK of papers accumulated by prime ministers during their term in office remaining their property once they retire. Against this background, other observers believe that it is right that Churchill's family should receive payment for the papers.

A very British coop

Article Abstract:

A considerable number of Conservative MPs are now seeking to move away from marginal constituencies and become a candidate for a safe seat. The Labour party claims that this shows that Conservative MPs are abandoning loyal voters as fears grow that the party will lose the next general election. Few Labour or Liberal Democrat MPs have announced plans to step down at the next election, but 38 Conservative MPs are to go.
