Sexual healing on Sunday

Article Abstract:

Phillip Hodson is the only 'agony uncle' in British newspapers, working for the 'News of the World', which has a circulation of 4.8 million. About 17,000 letters a week are sent to him out of about 13 million readers. Mr Hodson is an Oxford graduate and trained counsellor whse career began with eight years at 'Forum' magazine. From 1976-1991 he presented a controversial phone-in show on LBC Radio. Most of his work deals with sexual problems. He says that about half of the letters he receives are about sex, which he believes is the crisis of the 1990's. His client-centred and psycho-dynamic approach helps people to find their own answers.

Say farewell to Two Tarts in the Kitchen

Article Abstract:

Many advertisements depict women in unrealistic ways so the first all-women advertising agency, The Female Advantage, has been set up. Women make 80% of all purchasing decisions and by 2000 will have a spending power of 120 billion pounds sterling. Almost every British advertising agency is run by a man and 80% of copywriters are men and they do not realise that women are starting to be alienated by unflattering depictions. Many women in the profession are likely to advance in their careers but since 1982 fewer female copywriters and art directors have been employed.

Reassurance on wheels

Article Abstract:

Ladycabs is a North London taxi service company run by and for women, on which the BBC has based a television series. London is extremely unsafe for women travelling alone. Black cabs are licensed and safe but very expensive. Minicab firms have a disreputable image. They are non-licensed, often uninsured and they attract drivers with criminal histories or illegal immigrants who do not know the city. Ladycabs taxis deliver women passengers directly to their front doors. The work is flexible for the female drivers and they also feel safer with mainly women passengers.
