Shareholders seize the day

Article Abstract:

Shareholder activism is beginning to become a significant feature of UK investing. Most recently, this trend has been reflected in the departure of Mirror Group Chief Executive David Montgomery. Factors fuelling the growth of shareholder activism include the increasing influence of large US investors and the decline in the economy, which has revealed weaker companies. Most fund managers believe that a more proactive approach to equity investment will become a permanent feature.

Six months after launch, AIM is well on target

Article Abstract:

The UK's Alternative Investment Market (AIM), launched in Jun 1995, now has 117 companies with a total market capitalisation of 2.2 billion pounds sterling. So far, total funds raised have reached 76 million pounds sterling.
