Shares re-enter the danger zone

Article Abstract:

It seems likely that it will never be possible to eliminate asset price bubbles, even if there is a great deal of transparency and regulation. This can be seen in the current strong interest among investors in US Internet stocks, which bear all the key characteristics of an asset price bubble. It would be unnecessarily alarmist to make comparisons with the Japanese stock market bubble of the 1980s, but is clear that a dangerous situation is now emerging.

Market crisis demands urgent action

Article Abstract:

An extremely large credit squeeze has emerged in the Western banking system. It is no longer possible to dismiss developments in world equity markets as merely a positive correction. It seems unlikely that stock markets will recover unless there is a coordinated and substantial reduction in Western interest rates. There is already great reluctance to lend to emerging markets, and there is now the danger of a worldwide credit crunch.
