Article Abstract:

A strong commitment to Jewish culture can be both an advantage and a disadvantage, according to David Schneider. He is currently acting in his own play, 'The Eleventh Commandment,' and was previously well known on the Jewish alternative comedy circuit. His play draws heavily on his own experiences and those of others, but the mother in the play is not intended to be a reflection of his own mother. His relationship with his parents has been very strained since he began living which his non-Jewish partner.

Held prisoner by the past

Article Abstract:

Henry McCreath, who was a prisoner of war in Japan during the second world war, endured terrible conditions, but still feels guilty that he survived when so many of his comrades did not. He feels that the suffering and achievements of many prisoners of war have still not been recognised, even in the UK. His memories of his time as a prisoner remain very vivid, and he can only really talk about his experiences with fellow prisoners of war.

Fighting fit?

Article Abstract:

The UK Parachute Regiment operates an extremely rigorous fitness training programme which tests recruits' mental and physical abilities to the limits. Tasks include undertaking an 18-mile tactical advance to battle (tab) carrying 45lb back-packs across rough countryside. Trainers believe that this regime is vital in order to discover a recruit's breaking point before he is exposed to battle conditions.
