St Trinian's: fact or fiction?

Article Abstract:

Some observers feel that the moral line being taken by many UK schools, in which emphasis is placed on fairness and humility, is creating a society in which no moral judgements are ever really made. They see schools as being at the centre of a decline in morality and authority, and feel that teachers and parents fail to present a clear moral framework. What is really needed is for parents and society as a whole to take on greater responsibility for the moral education of children. If this were to happen, then schools could concentrate solely on academic issues.

Mummy has to go to work

Article Abstract:

Working mothers are often obliged to take time off work when their children are genuinely ill, but will usually send their child to school if they suspect that the illness is only minor or imagined. Recent research has shown that children with mothers who do not work miss more than twice as many school days as those with mothers who do work. It has also been found that children with the most minor and the most serious reasons for absence tend to have mothers who stay at home.

Anything to declare? If you're in the Lords then don't mention it

Article Abstract:

The registering of interests is largely voluntary for members of the UK House of Lords. Peers are recommended to mention interests when they rise to speak, but no action is taken if they do not do so. Some peers choose not to register any interests at all, and others believe that they do not always need to declare their interests in debates. Peers indicate that they use their judgement on which interests to register.
