Stitching up the higher ground

Article Abstract:

A new fashion culture is emerging in which there are much closer links between fashion and art. The most innovative fashion designers now see clothes as a blank canvas and the body as a hanging space for art. In turn, artists can discover a wide new range of materials in fashion, allowing them to express new ideas. There are now clear signs of efforts being made to extend the language of fashion and to go beyond accepted boundaries.

Who are you calling a buxom wench?

Article Abstract:

The fashion industry remains very reluctant to use larger sized models, even though these women are actually much closer in size to ordinary women than the extremely thin models generally used. Where larger sized models are used, it is often in a rather patronizing way, with strong emphasis on their size. Indeed, Sophie Dahl, who is size 14, has been made into just as much a freak stereotype as any extremely thin model.

Buxom, but no bimbo

Article Abstract:

The news that barmaid Bet Lynch, played by actress Julie Goodyear, is departing from the soap opera 'Coronation Street' has attracted a great deal of attention. She has been a key figure in the series since the 1970s, playing a warm, buxom, blonde who has won the hearts of many viewers. They are probably sad to see her leave because she represents an era about which they have many fond memories.
