Tabloid hard man sees his dreams die in the Mirror

Article Abstract:

It seems likely that Mirror Group Chief Executive David Montgomery will be removed from his post. The official reason is that he no longer has the confidence of shareholders and non-executive directors, but he has been in bitter conflict with Mirror Group Chmn Sir Victor Blank. Montgomery's departure will almost certainly mean that Mirror Group is sold to another newspaper publisher. He was able to boost the circulation of The Mirror, Mirror Group's flagship title, but it seems that large City shareholders now want somebody who can take the business forward.

Offshore tycoon with a mean streak who makes the Tory party nervous

Article Abstract:

Billionaire Michael Ashcroft, the 14th-richest man in the UK, is believed to have made substantial donations to the UK Conservative party since the 1980s, including 2 million pounds sterling since 1997. He has been given the position of party Treasurer, and has established close links with party leader William Hague and Chmn Michael Ancram. Some Conservatives are worried about his links with the party, particularly because he lives abroad. Some are also concerned about his connections with a political party in Belize, where he has many business interests.
