Tabloid queens: then there was none

Article Abstract:

Eight women have edited Sunday tabloid newspapers in the UK since 1987, when Wendy Henry became editor of News of the World. However, there are no longer any female tabloid newspaper editors, a development which is a cause for concern for some observers. It is possible to argue that women editors did not really effectively address issues of concern to women, and some observers believe that women were only able to become editors of tabloid newspapers because circulation figures were already falling. The only newspaper that really seems to take women seriously is The Mail, which has never had a women editor.

So what are today's soldiers good for? (apart from sex scandals, of course)

Article Abstract:

The image of the British Army has been very negatively affected by scandals relating to sex, violence, drugs and general bad behaviour. The Army seems to be unsure of its identity in the modern world. It regards itself as a high-intensity warfare machine, but this way of thinking is at odds with the shift towards peacekeeping in the modern world. It is also having only limited success with changing its demographic profile to be more in line with society as a whole.

There's big bucks in lunch boxes

Article Abstract:

Direct selling of goods from companies such as Betterware and Tupperware can prove extremely profitable for some British women. Most become agents simply in order to earn a small amount of money or to meet people, but some go one to reach very high positions with the company. The most successful agents often receive a company car and all-expenses-paid trips to exotic locations, and find that their standard of living rises dramatically.
