Take me to Xanadu

Article Abstract:

Among the factors that influence the brand names of drugs are function and purpose of the drug, Latin terms, and the feelings evoked by the chosen name. Examples of drugs and their brand names that affect the psyche are Xanax, which looks and sounds like anxiety, Pax, whose first syllable pax is Latin for peace, and Endep, which implies the drug's ability to end depression. The letters X and Z are commonly incorporated in drugs' brand names. For X there are Lasix, Tenex, Nix, Nolvadex and Mytrex, and for Z, there are Z-pak, Zoladex, Zocor and Zosyn.

"Danger trees" in Central Appalachian forests of the United States: an assessment of their frequency of occurrence

Article Abstract:

There are about 29 danger trees per acre in the Central Appalachian forests. A danger tree is defined as a standing tree which poses a hazard to forest workers due to its damaged root system, trunk and limbs. Accidents due to falling-parts from trees have been the most common in the region. Recognizing the impact of danger trees, the US Occupational Health and Safety Administration released regulations on how to handle danger trees.
