Tartan but spartan

Article Abstract:

There are still unanswered questions about the contents of the new Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, Scotland, which is due to be officially opened on Nov 30, 1998. The story of Scotland displayed at this museum is based wholly on the items in Scotland's national collections. However, some observers questions whether the stories of these items can be presented in a sufficiently exciting way with only explanations, captions and multimedia interpretation. In particular, the Twentieth Century gallery does not seem to really address current issues.

Scotland the brave

Article Abstract:

The new Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh, Scotland, is the result of an international competition which attracted considerable controversy. It provides the first purpose-built structure in which the wide range of objects required to represent Scotland's history can be displayed. The external architecture appears weightless, combining a late 20th century design with elements of Scottish architectural history. Inside, there is great richness, with many spatial and iconic surprises.
