Tell Giuliani: porn's greatest enemy is boredom

Article Abstract:

It is uncertain whether tough action against sex-related businesses such as stores selling adult videos in New York, NY, will have the intended result. Indeed, clamping down on pornography could actually increase demand for it. Americans pretend to find pornography boring, but would in fact be much less interested in it if it were completely legal. The commercial success of the pornography industry depends on it retaining a certain element of danger.

My enemy's enemy is my friend

Article Abstract:

During the second world war, the enemy in most Japanese films was usually unseen, as for most of the time Japan was not officially at war with any other country. In the 1950s and 1960s, Japanese films often showed American GIs behaving badly at US military bases in Japan, but the US was not seen as an outright enemy. In German war films made after 1945, the most common enemy is brutal German Nazis, rather than the Allies.
