Tension over Hungarians abroad

Article Abstract:

Hungarians in Romania, Slovakia and Serbia are suffering discrimination. The Trianon Peace Treaty of 1920 lost Hungary 2/3 of its territory and 1/3 of its people. Foreign Ministry Deputy State Secretary Ivan Baba is disturbed by actions of Romanian mayor of Cluj, Transylvania, Gheorghe Funar, who claims Transylvania's Hungarians are Hungarian-speakers from other origins. Hungary has committees with Ukraine, Croatia and Slovenia to consider minorities' problems. Trans-frontier co-operation is developing.

Yeltsin cures Kremlin's secrecy sickness

Article Abstract:

Russian leaders have traditionally not admitted to having any health problems. The state of the leader's health could only be gauged from rumours, and in some cases even the death of a leader was concealed. Many details of the private lives of leaders were not revealed, and disgraced leaders were treated almost as if they had not existed at all. Current president Boris Yeltsin has broken this tradition by stating openly that he requires a heart operation.

Revolution!

Article Abstract:

Dramatic political developments across the world in the period 1986-1996 have given a new meaning to the concept of revolution. In some cases, such as South Africa, governments have not been completely overthrown, as was traditionally the case following a revolution, but key political changes have still taken place. In the modern world, revolution is becoming more associated with elections and peaceful constitutional change.
