True confessions of a religious correspondent

Article Abstract:

There are many obstacles to true religious belief. There is always a danger of taking two-dimensional views of three-dimensional belief systems, and it is very hard to decide which beliefs are necessary for a religion. In the case of Christianity, many people are deterred from believing because so many Christians seem to strive to prove the impossibility of believing what they do. However, these problems do not mean that Christianity has no significance. Indeed, Good Friday is extremely valuable in showing that suffering matters and that torture in any form is unacceptable.

Dial now for Jerry Garcia's tie

Article Abstract:

Two London companies offer dial-up connections to Internet for users of personal computers with modems. Internet is a network of public networks, enabling the user to access to almost any information. It has an unwritten code of free speech. Demon Systems Internet gateway requires a modem which operates at at least 9,600 bits per second and the complicated authorised software is constantly being altered. The Cix conferencing system has a reduced gateway which can be accessed with ordinary communications software.

The season of ill-will

Article Abstract:

Dr Brandon Jackson, the dean of Lincoln Cathedral, is coming under strong pressure to resign following a number of incidents which reveal how extensively he is in conflict with almost everyone with whom he works. Most recently, Rt Rev Robert Hardy, the Bishop of Lincoln, refused to preach his Christmas sermon in Lincoln Cathedral. This is in sharp contrast to Dr Jackson's early years at Lincoln Cathedral, when he was regarded as a moderniser and an efficient administrator.
