That is so unfair - the gap generation needs more help

Article Abstract:

The UK government's education policy appears to assume that most 16-to-19-year-olds are studying advanced level qualifications and that they wish to go on to higher education. This approach runs the risk of overlooking a whole generation of young people who have performed badly at GCSE level, especially boys. Teenagers will generally not have access to the new flexible education and training opportunities available to adults. It is now time to establish what sort of curriculum teenagers really need, considering particularly whether curriculums should be based on qualifications.

Blair seeks equality, opportunity and second term as PM

Article Abstract:

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair presented a vision of a society offering equal opportunity for all in his speech to the 1999 Labour party conference. He stated that the foundations of a new society in which everybody will be able to use their talents to the full are under construction. He indicated that the 21st century will see conflict between the forces of progress and the forces of conservatism, rather than between capitalism and socialism.
