The American people may yet repudiate their President

Article Abstract:

President Bill Clinton remains popular among ordinary people. His position is also strengthened by the fact that the Republicans are very reluctant to go as far as to vote a resolution of impeachment against him. There is evidence that ordinary Americans are prepared to forgive him if it is revealed that he did have a sexual relationship with Monica Lewinsky, although they would be less forgiving if he was found to have committed perjury. Clinton is unlikely to be impeached, but popular opinion may turn against him and his presidency could be completely discredited.
