Master of the Queens's Muzak

Article Abstract:

Andrew Lloyd Webber is an extremely rich composer who is disliked by the critics and adored by the public. Lloyd Webber is reputed to be worth about 300 million pounds sterling and owns several houses and excellent art collections. Leaving Oxford after one term to join Tim Rice with whom he wrote several musicals, he has had several musicals in the West End and Broadway at once. Nineteen million people have seen his shows in London but critics do not class them as serious music. He also owns the Palace Theatre and has sponsored other theatre and musical companies.

The 'Pathetique' tale of a poisoned glass of water

Article Abstract:

There has been a great deal of speculation and misinformation about the life of Russian composer Peter Tchaikovsky. In particular, there are many myths surrounding his death. At the time of his death, in Oct 1893, he was reported to have died of cholera. It is now widely believed that he committed suicide, but there is actually no real evidence for this. New research into the last weeks of his life indicate that he could have drunk cholera-infected water. He had a history of stomach problems, and had a short time previously been treated for a mild type of cholera.

Muzak was my first love

Article Abstract:

Piped background music is often the subject of jokes and criticism, but some people can actually find it very reassuring, calming their nerves when they are in unfamiliar situations. Its minimalist sound has a charm all of its own, and it can often revive happy memories. Its critics say that the presence of background music indicates an absence of 'reality,' but this is not the case at all.
