The West's poisonous legacy

Article Abstract:

There has been a four-fold rise in cases of childhood cancer in the south of Iraq since the Allied use of depleted uranium shells in the 1991 war. The health dangers of depleted uranium are taken very seriously in the UK, but the US and the UK are making no efforts to establish whether residues of Allied depleted uranium shells could be responsible for the rise in childhood cancer cases in Iraq. Very large numbers of these shells were fired in fields south of Basra, Iraq, a fertile area where much of Iraq's food is grown.
