Issues concerning the handling of apparently racially-motivated crimes by the police and the prison service in the UK are discussed. Particular attention is given to cases in which a racist motive has been dismissed.

Bad behaviour is not race war

Issues raised by clashes between white and Asian youths in Oldham, England, are discussed. It is argued that bad behaviour by young people cannot always be interpreted as having a racial motive.
