The big book of revenge

Article Abstract:

There are mixed views about whether books by the wives of famous men really contribute anything of biographical value to the general public's knowledge of these men. Objective biographers are keen to use frank insights into their subject's life, but they also attempt to achieve a balance. This is not the case with wives, especially those who have been treated badly. Adele Mailer has written a very negative account of her life with Norman Mailer, for example, while Pamela Marvin is rather more forgiving about Lee Marvin.

They make do with a time-share husband

Article Abstract:

Three wives whose husbands have been constantly unfaithful tell their stories. The first woman leaves her husband after seeing a counsellor about their daughter. The second wife knows her husband's current mistress well and sees her as no threat to their marriage and is sure that he will not leave her. The third woman, entertainer Marti Caine, has developed a theory from her experience that men who have a series of mistresses share a certain personality type.

No holds barred for a woman betrayed

Article Abstract:

Della Bovey, whose husband Grant left her for television presenter Anthea Turner but then returned to resume their marriage, provides an example to women who are abandoned for a younger woman. She worked hard to improve her appearance and showed that she was determined to win back her husband. She is one of a growing number of women in the UK who refuse to accept that their marriage has come to an end and who fight to retain their self-respect.
