The dark world behind Versace's life of glamour

Article Abstract:

The murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace has highlighted the fact that the world of fashion is one of secrecy, intrigue and sometimes considerable danger. Versace was a flamboyant figure in public, often challenging convention and being closely associated with celebrities. However, he was very reluctant to allow anyone to gain an insight into his real character. He talked openly about his homosexuality, but remained very uncomfortable about his sexuality. He was keen to display his wealth, but unwilling to reveal details about the profitability of his business.

The price of freedom

Article Abstract:

The Birmingham Six, who were victims of a miscarriage of justice, have received two interim compensation payments totalling 200,000 pounds sterling since they were released by the Court of Appeal in 1991. However, there is still no agreement on a final settlement, which will include elements for loss of past and future earnings and damages for mistreatment by police and prison officers. The men have now decided to put their case directly to Home Secretary Jack Straw, making him fully aware of the psychological and financial difficulties which they still face.
