The hanging judge

Article Abstract:

People who both paint and write are particularly interesting, according to Sir Stephen Tumim, formerly Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of Prisons and now Principal of St Edmund Hall in Oxford, England. He started collecting paintings at an early age, initially focusing on works by Robert Bevan. He later became interested in more modern art, and was at one time Chairman of the Friends of the Tate. He also collects drawings and prints, and has some sculptures. His collection is currently being exhibited at the Michael Parkin Gallery in London, England.

All kinds of everything

Article Abstract:

The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition in London, England, gives a very interesting insight into a wide range of works, according to sculptor Norman Ackroyd. The two main themes among works submitted for the 1998 exhibition were pictures of Diana, Princess of Wales, and work undertaken in the manner of the Young British Artists. Ackroyd, who was one of the selectors, paid particular attention to works under glass. He is in favour of showing sculpture with prints.

All the art that's fit to print

Article Abstract:

The British Museum in London, England, is currently staging an exhibition entitled 'Printmaking in Paris: Picasso and His Contemporaries.' This is an extremely attractive exhibition which deserves much more media coverage than it has received. It contains many ingenious and erotic nude images, and is particularly interesting because it begins and ends with the work of Picasso. There are more than 160 exhibits, all of which are of very high quality.
