The instant garden

Article Abstract:

Plants purchased for a garden which is required to produce almost instant colour and attraction should be those that grow rapidly, such as sunflowers and nasturtiums. It is also worth considering standard gooseberries, which give an old-fashioned cottage garden look, along with dahlias and globe artichokes. For those interested in growing vegetables, tomatoes and courgettes grow rapidly. For small gardens, eschscholzia, poppies and marigolds may be appropriate.

I want flowers, fruit - and romance

Article Abstract:

Building up a garden from a bare plot can seem a very daunting task. People often have many ideas about how they would like the finished garden to look, but have no idea how to go about achieving this effect. It is important to establish what the various levels of the garden will be and to build any steps or paths required before putting in any plants. It is also important to decide where areas such as a vegetable garden and a herb garden will be located.

Wild flowers for a Tudor farmhouse

Article Abstract:

It is possible to create a low-maintenance patch in a garden, even where there is very little depth of soil. Crazy paving or gravel can sometimes be too harsh, so a better solution may be a flowery mead. These are ideal for shallow soil, as weeds grow too rapidly on rich ground. A small wild flower area is particularly appropriate for the garden of an old house, and can include plants such as ragged robin, vetch, agrimony and trefoil.
