The maestro of the rolls

Article Abstract:

The dynamics of dance bears a close resemblance to the action of the pianola, according to pianola player Rex Lawson. He is working with choreographer Siobhan Davies on a dance interpretation of the Studies of pianola player Conlon Nancarrow. His pianola is equipped with levers which allow him to humanize the sound, and he is able to vary the speed and adjust the balance between left and right hand. However, it is never possible to guarantee that a pianola will produce the same sound at every performance.

Coming on in leaps and bounds

Article Abstract:

The new Sadler's Wells theatre in Islington, London, England, is due to be completed in autumn 1998. The 48 million pounds sterling building will feature a stage of 15 sq mt, with a proscenium opening 10 mt high. The orchestra pit and the front and sides of the stalls are designed to be completely flexible, and it will be possible to accommodate audiences of between 900 and 1,800. It seems clear that the theatre will have a very positive atmosphere.

Such fluff as dreams are made on

Article Abstract:

Most of the UK's ballet companies are now including ballets featuring animals in their repertoire, especially in the Christmas period. More recently, the Royal Ballet has been performing 'Tales of Beatrix Potter' and 'Peter and the Wolf.'
