The man who knew everyone

Article Abstract:

Ossie Clark was a fashion designer who was well-known in the 1970s, and he also developed a circle of friends which included many writers, artists and other famous people of that time, including Truman Capote and Andy Warhol. Clark married a fabric designer, Celia Birtwell, but this marriage did not last, due to his homosexuality and drug habit. He created suits with a fluid elegance, but talent was not enough, and he became bankrupt due to inability to manage his business affairs.

The house that Dominique built

Article Abstract:

Dominique Sirop is a fashion designer who started work with Yves Saint Laurent before moving to Givenchy. He was chosen by Givenchy as his successor but the head of LVMH, Bernard Arnault, chose Galliano instead on the grounds that he was more famous. Sirop has established his own couture house and is attracting clients from Givenchy. He recognises Givenchy's influence in seeking to eliminate excess, and argues that haute couture will have more of a future if it is more affordable.
