The man who was Yoda

Article Abstract:

Joseph Campbell was an important influence on mass culture in the US, though he is less well known in Britain. He has influenced rock musicians such as the Grateful Dead, as well as a number of major motion pictures, including Star Wars, which have used his research on heroes as myths. His own life can be perceived as illustrating his accounts of heroes' lives, since he went through similar phases from a humble upbringing, a call to learning, a time in the wilderness, a return and gathering of disciples, and then achieved triumph as his reputation grew.

Michelangelo reborn

Article Abstract:

Film-maker Michelangelo Antonioni did not gain international recognition until the age of 50, with his 1960 film 'L'Avventura. He consolidated this position very quickly, and soon came to be regarded by many as one of the greatest artists of Post-War European Art Cinema. He has produced no films at all since 1974, and many younger people are unaware of his work. However, he now has a new film, 'Beyond the Clouds,' which is to open in Jan 1997. This is reported to be an extremely powerful film.
