Chris Haskins, chairman of Northern Foods, is an unusual businessman in that he has socialist opinions and believes in democratic liberalism. Aged 55, he was born in Wicklow, southern Ireland, and studied at Trinity College, Dublin. He became a director of Northern Dairies when he was 29 and married to the daughter of its founder. He manages the business by building relationships based on trust.

Sir Stanley Kalms, the 'father figure' who created Dixons, to retire at 71

Stanley Kalms, head of the Dixons electrical chain, is to retire in Sep 2002 at the age of nearly 71. He feels that the successful bid for Currys, purchased in 1984, was his greatest achievement.
