The reality is that intelligent life is probably out there

Article Abstract:

Human beings have for many generations wondered whether there is life elsewhere in the universe. However, it is only recently that it has become possible to use technology to make a serious attempt to pick up signals from intelligent life in other parts of the universe. Other civilizations may last only a very short time, and this would make it very difficult to detect any trace of them. However, if these civilizations can exist for millions of years, then there are good prospects of finding at least some of them. Discovering other civilizations would be unlikely to change life on Earth radically very quickly.

It's time to catch up with reality

Article Abstract:

Latest technology allows full company accounts to be produced and checked much more quickly than in the past. In many cases, companies are now publishing full accounts only a very short time after they make their preliminary announcement. It is clear that preliminary announcements are still valuable, but many observers are beginning to question whether the reporting cycle as a whole continues to operate effectively. It would be better to make available the company's audited statutory accounts and operating and financial review on the day the results are announced.

First, catch your wild boar

Article Abstract:

Old books containing household and social advice have a very insular atmosphere, according to Jackie Percival, who has accumulated a collection of these books. She feels that such books, even though they are not worth very much, have considerable historical value. She believes that they give a fascinating insight into how people really lived. People's concerns, such as keeping their home clean and remaining in control, have remained the same, even though their sources of advice have changed substantially in appearance.
