Rock and roll was often the only way for people from a working class background to express their creativity, according to rock singer and guitarist Chris Rea. He took up a career in music simply because he loves music, not from any desire to become rich and famous, and regards himself as a musician, rather than a rock star. He has become famous mainly as a result of his unusual singing voice, which has made it impossible for him to simply have an anonymous career in music.
